Willington was alive with new birds this morning feeding along the river valley.

Wood Lane - after the fog

Male Stonechat still frequenting Wood Lane and no less that eleven Jay sightings this morning with birds all heading down the hill from Sheerhatch.

One of the more challenging species I have attempted to photograph and after only fleeting glances and faint calls from the bird at Burnham Overy on Friday, I decided to try again, this time at Shingle Street in Suffolk. Poor images but a good bird to see.

Superb late afternoon spent around Burnham Overy dunes where some of the migrants seemed very tame. The Radde's Warbler was heard and showed very briefly but needs to take some lessons from these two posers.

These have been scarce all year but in the past day or two there has been quite a few emerge near the pumping station in Willington.

Looking for Migrants

I spent some time at Willington GP at the weekend trying to connect with a fly-over Osprey or Honey Buzzard but had to make do with these old kites !

West Country Wanderings

A mixed bag this year given the unseasonal mix of weather in the South West this last two weeks. Who knows if the Hooded Merganser is of wild origin ?

And Then There Was One

The lone female but no sign of this year's two young that were in the vicinity on Friday. The male bird unfortunately died in a collision with a vehicle but this bird has still been able to fledge two young despite a real dearth of prey this season. What with another wet summer and a poor year for voles, I would be surprised if many young survive this year.

Given away by the Whitethroats who constantly scolded this smart Red-backed Shrike that seems content this summer with it's surroundings at Sea Palling.
